For Tuesday, April 15

Read Plato's Phaedrus. Try to read all of it—definitely read through Socrates' first speech.

This is unrelated to the current topic, but related to the course.

Here's a link to a David Carson - The End of Print video with William S. Borough reading his writing.

And a question: Professor Coffeen, what do you think about David Carson?

I am ambivalent about Carson. Or perhaps it's better to say that I have no strong feeling one way or the other. But I do miss his will to the decentered and the chaotic -- everything these daze is so neo-classical.

It's funny how design writers and critics took his work so seriously.

Design critic: "Why did you put black text on a black boot"

Carson: "I didn't see the prints. It's a mistake!"

The riff in the last lecture where you talked about infinity was great.

"Infinite possibilities doesn't mean anything is possible." Around that part.
